The Academy of Finland has an agreement on funding cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JPS). In addition, the Academy participates in a NordForsk-coordinated Nordic collaboration with the Japan Agency for Medical Development (AMED).
The cooperation with the JSPS covers all fields of research. Through the cooperation, the Academy and the JSPS provide support for researcher mobility and Finnish-Japanese joint seminars. Researchers with a doctorate can apply for mobility funding in September. Researcher can also apply for a personal mobility grant for research at Japanese universities and research institutes. The mobility grant is intended for the researcher’s own travel and living expenses in Japan, not for research costs. Researchers can also apply for a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship grant through the Academy.
Mobility seminar funding can be applied for in order to organise or participate in a Finnish-Japanese seminar. Reasonable costs of organising the seminar refer to rents, meeting equipment, food and drinks during meetings, printing and mailing. Mobility funding for participating in a seminar in Japan can be applied for with a single application for all Finns working in the same organisation.
The Academy’s collaboration with AMED is aimed at supporting research cooperation in the field of medicine and health. NordForsk is coordinating a joint call between Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden and Norway) and AMED scheduled for 2021. The call will be announced later on the Academy’s website.
