The Joint Committee for the Nordic Research Councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS) promotes renewal of science and international collaboration between researchers. NOS-HS funds Nordic exploratory workshops in the humanities and social sciences, where researchers gather together around a jointly developed new theme to establish contacts and develop joint research projects. The workshops can also be used to prepare joint applications for international funding calls. Some workshops can be arranged remotely, if necessary, and they must be interactive sessions.

The workshops are designed for researchers at different career stages from at least three Nordic countries. Early-career researchers must have an active role in implementing the workshops. Funding is available for series of workshops that will take place in 2023‒2024. The funding comes to 29,000‒43,000 euros per series.

The Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Culture and Society participates in NOS-HS activities. In the 2021 workshop call, NOS-HS granted funding for 32 joint Nordic workshop series. These will comprise 93 workshops to be organised in 2022 and 2023, with more than 1,700 participating researchers.

The 2022 call is scheduled to open on 1 March 2022 and close on 28 April 2022 (TBC). Applications are submitted to the NOS-HS Secretariat via NordForsk’s application portal (note the local time). The NOS-HS Secretariat is based at NordForsk in Oslo since 1 January 2022.
