The Board of the Academy of Finland approved Finland’s Strategy for Research Infrastructures for 2020–2030 – Creativity, renewal and knowledge on a strong basis

18 Dec 2019

In its meeting on 17 December 2019, the Board of the Academy of Finland has approved the proposal for Finland’s Strategy for Research Infrastructures for 2020–2030 drafted by the Finnish Research Infrastructure Committee.

Our vision is for high-class research infrastructure services to increase the impact and international attraction of the Finnish research, education and innovation system. To realise our vision, the strategy aims to promote the quality, renewal and competitiveness of research, support the diverse impact of research environments and increase national and international collaboration.

While drafting the strategy during 2018–2019, we organised web surveys and workshops aimed at a wide range of stakeholders. Six areas of development were identified: responsibility and sustainable development, perseverance and dynamism, ownership and know-how, digital platforms and data, open access and collaboration, and wide and versatile impact.

Based on the strategy, the Finnish Research Infrastructure Committee will open roadmap and funding calls. Together with other actors, it will also develop national and international research infrastructures in the coming years. The Finnish Research Infrastructure Committee will also draft action plans which determine the central measures to be taken during the next three years to reach the strategy goals.

Finland’s Strategy for Research Infrastructures for 2020–2030 will be published in an open seminar at the Academy of Finland on 28 January 2020.
