2024 Research Council of Finland – NRF Korea joint call 2024: 6G and Quantum Technology
- In this joint call, the application procedure differs from a typical Research Council of Finland call. Please study the procedure in detail before preparing to apply.
- Applicants from Finland can participate in this joint funding opportunity via proposals submitted to the NRF between 05 June and 19 July 2024 by the partners from Korea.
- Confirmation of eligibility for funding is required for the partner from Finland prior to applying. An ‘Intention to submit’ is sent to the Research Council for assessment no later than 24.05.2024. Both the applicant and NRF will be notified of confirmed eligibility no later than 31.05.2024.
- The Research Council’s total budget earmarked for the call is 1 million euros. Maximum of four (4) projects will be selected for funding. This funding will be used exclusively for research performed by the research team from Finland.
- Research Council funding will be granted only for proposals that are selected for funding in the NRF call procedure and are selected for funding by the Research Council.
The NRF and the Research Council of Finland collaborate via a Lead Agency model, in which the NRF acts as the Lead Agency. In this approach, proposers from both countries will collaborate to write a single proposal. It is the responsibility of the proposer from Korea to submit the proposal to the appropriate NRF programme for review. Researchers from Finland participating in the joint research project will apply for funding separately from the Research Council of Finland in accordance with the guidelines and procedures provided in this call text. For all the details on this grant opportunity, see:
https://www.aka.fi/en/research-funding/apply-for-funding/how-to-use-funding/.
The overall goal of the partnership between the Research Council of Finland and the NRF is to enable and facilitate high-quality basic research collaboration between researchers from Finland and Korea.
Before you start preparing to apply for the funding, please read carefully the call text, which is published by NRF:
PI from Finland must have a doctoral degree and other significant scientific merits.
The funding from the Research Council can be applied for by individual research teams or consortia composed of two or more research teams from Finnish research organisations. The consortium parties may represent one or several research organisations. To be eligible for consideration by the Research Council, each proposal must have a minimum of one applicant from Finland and one from Korea, and significant research participation by both countries. The collaborative projects must add significant added value that is not achievable by the PI’s team working alone, and the topics proposed must be in the field of 6G and/or quantum technologies of basic research (TRL1~2).
A PI requesting funding from the Research Council can have only one active Research Council of Finland–NRF partnership proposal. A proposal is considered active from its submission until the date of the Research Council’s funding decision.
The Research Council’s total budget earmarked for the call is 1 million euros. It is meant for four (4) projects for three (3) years. Thus, each grant will be max. 250 000 euros for three years (i.e. max. 83 333 euros/year).
