New RCF call for applications for Finnish Flagships being prepared for 2026

9 Jun 2025

The Research Council of Finland (RCF) is preparing to fund the continuation of the Finnish Flagship Programme with a new call for applications in 2026. The funding period would start by 1 January 2027. The funding is planned to be allocated through a call open to both Flagships ending in the same year and new consortia not yet funded under the Flagship Programme.

The review of applications will be planned so that both previous funding recipients and new applicants have an equal opportunity to succeed. Preparations for the upcoming call are underway, and the call text will be published in late 2025. The review will be carried out with international peer review. The funding decisions will be made by a subcommittee appointed by the RCF Board.

A Finnish Flagship is an effective mix of cutting-edge research, wide-ranging impact, close connections to the business sector and society at large, adaptability, and a strong commitment from host organisations.

The RCF is prepared to fund the Finnish Flagship Programme on a long-term basis. Following the 2026 call, the RCF aims to develop the funding scheme based on an external, independent evaluation.
