This year’s survey on strategic research themes has closed – thank you for your suggestions and constructive comments!

7 Nov 2022

The survey on new strategic research themes is now closed. By the deadline, we received over 100 proposals to support the theme preparation of the Strategic Research Council (SRC). A total of 488 users logged in to complete the survey, and they engaged in a very active and useful discussion.

We warmly thank all those who participated in the survey for the new ideas and for the constructive discussion to develop the ideas further. Active participation in the process supports the preparation of high-quality proposals.

All proposals and comments will be examined as part of the theme preparation process. “The survey shows that the current set of ongoing SRC programmes covers a very broad range of topical societal challenges. Therefore, it’s somewhat of a challenge to come up with completely new ideas. The survey highlights, above all, that the proposals gave rise to a very constructive and rich discussion,” says Pilvi Toppinen, Senior Science Adviser at the Division of Strategic Research.

The preparation will continue next at the SRC and in early 2023 with a stakeholder workshop. The SRC will also organise a public consultation in May 2023, where interested parties will have the opportunity to comment on the draft theme proposal. After the event, the SRC will prepare the final theme proposal and submit it to the Government for decision. Based on the Government’s decision, the SRC will in autumn 2023 prepare the SRC programmes and calls that will be launched in 2024.
