New SRC programme directors selected

10 Mar 2021

The Strategic Research Council (SRC) has selected two new part-time programme directors for the SRC programmes Climate Change and Humans (CLIMATE) and Information Literacy and Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (LITERACY). The programme directors will receive funding for the period 1 March 2021–30 September 2023.

The new programme director for the CLIMATE programme is Paula Schönach, senior advisor for sustainability at Aalto University. The new programme director for the LITERACY programme is Research Director Jarmo Viteli from Tampere University.

The SRC selected Schönach and Viteli on the basis of their scientific merits, multidisciplinary competence, management and coordination experience in multisectoral networks and suitability for the role.

An SRC programme director works in close cooperation with the programme’s projects to build a coherent programme package and promote cooperation between SRC programmes. In addition, together with other programme directors and the Division of Strategic Research at the Academy of Finland, programme directors are responsible for the development and implementation of the joint activities of SRC programmes, and they strengthen the societal impact of strategic research through their activities. Programme directors are employed by their background organisation.
