Innovative research method provides reliable evidence on how income position affects satisfaction
The results of a large-scale Finnish experimental study suggest that awareness of one’s relative income position affects both satisfaction and behaviour. Using an innovative research method, the researchers were able to reliably assess the causal effect of relative income awareness on satisfaction. The study also examined how information provided through a survey influences people’s actual financial decisions, which is another novel aspect of the research. The project is led by Topi Miettinen, Professor of Economics at Hanken School of Economics.
