A vibrant research landscape can make Finland an attractive science country, where expertise is developed, reformed and transferred to societal use. Research produces competence that is critically important for Finland: the ability to produce new knowledge and make use of research data produced elsewhere. A solid knowledge base enables innovation, as research knowledge in different fields can be applied to new solutions and innovations.
The expertise produced by research is not limited to the scientific community alone – the key source of RDI productivity is skilled people and the transfer of expertise between them.
Versatile research funding is a means to respond to rapidly changing skills needs and to intensifying competition for talents. Research strengthens high-level expertise, increases interaction between the scientific community and society at large, and improves our ability to solve complex problems. The funding granted by the RCF connects Finnish research excellence to international research and innovation networks.
