AI model uses health data to predict future diseases

A project led by Associate Professor Andrea Ganna (Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), University of Helsinki) has developed a tool that identifies infants at risk of severe RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) infection using registry data from more than two million children. The findings show that AI can reveal hidden health risks and support more personalised and equitable healthcare. The project has used research infrastructures including the ELIXIR Finland bioinformatics research infrastructure.
