Background and objectives

At the core of the Research Council of Finland’s activities is to provide funding for excellent scientific research. The research we fund is also expected to have high scientific and societal impact and follow the principles of responsible science.

A post as Academy Professor is intended for high-calibre scientists whose research promotes scientific renewal, pursues scientific breakthroughs and seeks solutions for the benefit of society.

The aim of the Academy Professorship funding is that the applicant, who is already at the international forefront of their field, not only becomes a top international researcher during the term, but is also able to strengthen and raise the level of expertise in the field in Finland.

The funding is granted for up to six years. Funding can be granted for the researcher’s own salary and other costs associated with the implementation of the research plan.
