The Resilience of Liberal Democracy in Finland (RESLIDE)
Liberal democracy is at risk. Over the past decade, a global trend of democratic backsliding has emerged, largely originating from within political systems themselves.
The RESLIDE consortium will evaluate the resilience of liberal democracy in Finland and propose solutions to safeguard it. This includes studying commitment to democratic norms among citizens, politicians and public administrators, exploring democratic discourses online and in formal political arenas and analysing inequalities in political representation and participation.
RESLIDE employs a variety of research methods, including comparative case studies and survey research, with a strong emphasis on experimental designs.
The consortium will develop a digital warning system to identify alarming trends in public discourse and create tools to strengthen democratic norms, reduce inequalities in voter turnout and support public officials in combatting democratic backsliding.
