The Academy of Finland regularly reviews the state of scientific research in Finland to support Finnish higher education institutes and research institutes in their efforts to further develop their operations. The reviews also serve to inform science policy. The review process requires active stakeholder collaboration both in producing the material and in making the best possible use of the results.
The reviews on the state of scientific research are regularly published in the form of statistical and bibliometric analyses on research staff and research funding, publishing, scientific impact, and co-publishing. The analyses are broken down by country, scientific discipline and organisation. The reviews also include in-depth analyses on specific themes.
The Academy has reviewed the state of scientific research in Finland since the late 1990s and at two-year intervals since 2012. The latest report was published in 2018. The aim is to move to an annual cycle.
