ERA-NET NEURON (2007-2011)

The maintenance and restoration of health is one of the most valuable goods in human life and a fundamental need for citizens in all countries. Biomedical and health research is an important basis for the improvement of healthy living. Among the many diseases affecting health, disorders of the brain are major causes for impaired quality of life. According to estimates by the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than one billion people suffer from disorders of the central nervous system. With increasing average life expectancy of the population, especially in highly industrialised countries, the incidence of neurodegenerative diseases is rapidly growing.

Thus, research in the area of disease-related neurosciences and its translation into diagnostic and therapeutical measures are of highest priority. ERA-NET NEURON is a joint partnership for funding of disease-oriented neuroscientific research, originally supported by the EU Sixth Framework Programme (EUR 2.7 million). It represents a platform for research and health ministries and funding agencies in EU Member States and Associated or other countries. Participants in ERA-NET NEURON 2007-2011 included 15 core partners and four observers from 12 countries. The network was coordinated by DLR (Germany).

ERA-NET NEURON II (2012-2015)

The second phase of the ERA-NET NEURON network started in 2012 with a larger volume of partners. The 21 partners represent now 18 countries and the coordination is continued by DLR from Germany. The 7PO funding for the network is 2 million EUR. One of the key aims of the action is to continue with the annual joint transnational calls for research projects.

The ERA-NET NEURON partner countries issue annually the call for "Excellent Paper in Neuroscience Award (EPNA)" to recognize the most outstanding publications by young researchers in the field of disease related neurosciences. Read MORE.

ERA-NET NEURON joint transnational call 2013: "European Research Projects on Mental Disorders"

ERA-NET NEURON joint call 2013 on Mental Disorders has been closed 11.3.2013. The full proposals for second round were chosen in May. More about the call on ERA-NEURON web page.
