Peter Liljeroth studies artificial designer materials created either atom-by-atom with advanced microscopic techniques or through molecular self-assembly. The target is to create materials with engineered electronic properties. In particular, the aim is to realise exotic quantum materials (two-dimensional topological superconductors and organic topological insulators) that thus far do not have naturally occurring counterparts. In the final part of the project, Liljeroth will fabricate real-world electronic devices using these materials. This will be crucial in enabling entirely novel applications based on quantum technologies.
Liljeroth has received ERC Consolidator and Advanced Grants from the European Research Council.
