Government adopted strategic research themes for 2015
18 December 2014
On Thursday 18 December, the Finnish Government adopted the main strategic research themes and priorities for 2015. The themes include the utilisation of technological transitions, changing institutions, a climate-neutral and resource-scarce society, and equality and its promotion.
Eacy year, the Government will decide on the main themes and priorities of strategic research based on an initiative by the Strategic Research Council. In 2015, the total budget authority amounts to 55.6 million euros. The funding calls have been scheduled for spring 2015. Information on the process will be made available later.
The Strategic Research Council provides funding to long-term problem-oriented and programme-based research that produces solutions to the major challenges facing Finnish society. The research supports social policy and society’s functions and services. The projects to be funded are selected by the SRC. The SRC is also responsible for project follow-up and impact assessment. The projects are selected based on a review of their scientific quality, societal relevance and impact.
