The Research Council for Biosciences and Environment of the Academy of Finland will be involved in funding two calls for proposals under the ERA-NET Cofund scheme of Horizon 2020. The calls will open this autumn and in early 2018.
The BiodivScen call is targeted at research into biodiversity and ecosystem services and will open in October 2017. The WaterWorks2017 call will focus on research into a closed water recycling loop and will open in early 2018.
The theme of the WaterWorks2017 call is Closing the Water Cycle Gap, Improving Sustainable Water Resources Management. It will involve the search for new solutions enabling sustainable water management and water reuse on a global basis. Multidisciplinary research, a social and economic approach and close contact with end-users will be required to achieve this goal. The theme is identified in Water JPI’s strategic research agenda (Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda 2.0 THEME 5), which includes further information on the subject. The call for proposals will open in early 2018, and the Academy of Finland will provide further details on its website.
The BiodivERsA and Belmont Forum networks will jointly launch the BiodivScen call for proposals, Scenarios of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. The main objective of the call is to promote scenario-based research on biodiversity, changes within biodiversity and the associated ecosystem services. To be eligible, research projects must combine high-level scientific research with social relevance and the participation of decision-makers, particularly at international level. The call will open in October 2017, and the Academy of Finland will provide further details on its website. A preliminary announcement of the call for proposals has been published; the related details will be updated during the autumn on the websites of BiodivERsA and the Belmont Forum.
