The first-ever call for applications opened under the Academy of Finland’s Flagship Programme closed yesterday on 9 November 2017. The Academy received 16 applications for flagship funding: seven from individual research organisations and nine from consortia composed of several organisations. These organisations include ten universities and five government research institutes.
The total funding applied for amounts to some 173.3 million euros. The Academy will fund flagship projects with a maximum of 25 million euros during the first four-year flagship term.
The final decisions on which applicants will receive flagship funding will be made on 18 April 2018.
The second call of the Flagship Programme has been scheduled to open in May 2018 and close on 20 June 2018.
In the Academy of Finland’s Flagship Programme, a flagship represents an effective mix of cutting-edge research, impact in support of economic growth or society, close connections to the business sector and society at large, adaptability, and a strong commitment from host organisations. Flagships are high-quality, high-impact competence clusters that work in flexible ways, simultaneously running several projects and other activities. During the flagship term, the clusters will make ongoing progress and systematically improve, evolve and expand their activities. The flagship funding is open to all scientific disciplines.
