The Academy of Finland has granted 19.3 million euros in funding to Finnish research infrastructures. In all, the Finnish Research Infrastructure Committee granted funding to 48 infrastructure projects.
The two funding calls opened in 2014 attracted nearly 60 applications from potential infrastructures. The success rate was 27 per cent. The funding decisions were made in two separate sets in December 2014 and January 2015.
The first call was targeted at research infrastructures nationally significant to Finland, and the second call at national ESFRI nodes.
The Academy of Finland will annually fund the best Finnish research infrastructures and the best international research infrastructures used by Finnish researchers.
Research infrastructures form a reserve of research facilities, equipment, materials and services. As such, they enable research and development at various stages of innovation, while supporting organised research, researcher training and teaching. They also support and develop research and innovation capacity.
In making its selections, the FIRI Committee will take into account research infrastructures that have been included in the Finnish national roadmap.
