The Academy of Finland's Research Council for Culture and Society has granted funding to 20 new Academy Research Fellows and 30 new Postdoctoral Researchers. The Research Council's total funding for these research posts was nearly 16 million euros.
The aim of the funding for research posts as Academy Research Fellow is to provide an opportunity for the most talented and advanced researchers to develop their skills of academic leadership and to establish themselves as independent researchers. The funding covers the researcher's salary for five years.
The aim of the three-year funding for research posts as Postdoctoral Researcher is to advance the professional competence of the most promising researchers who have recently earned their doctorate.
The researchers who were granted funding will study a broad range of topics, covering themes such as the lives of children and families, support networks for children, children's school motivation, and families' time management.
Several of the funded projects aim to explore issues of modern-day migration: the movements of paperless migrants in Europe, the African diaspora, second-generation Kurdish and Turkish communities, and soft power influences in the diaspora communities of Eastern Europe. In addition, the researchers will study democratic innovations in Finland, the risks in connection to electricity supply, EU policy-making, and 18th century Finnish peasants' rise from subservience to full citizenship.
