The Academy of Finland saw a modest rise in application numbers for its September funding call, compared to last year. The Academy received 3,636 applications by the deadline of 1 October. This was a slight increase from last year's total of 3,482.
At instrument level, Academy Project funding was the most popular funding opportunity with 1,527 applications (1,359 in 2014). A total of 146 researchers applied for funding for a research post as Academy Professor (139 in 2014), 623 for a research post as Academy Research Fellow (591 in 2014) and 1,099 for a research post as Postdoctoral Researcher (1,072 in 2014).
The Research Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering received the most applications, 1,313 in total (1,275 in 2014). The Research Council for Culture and Society received 1,087 applications (991 in 2014), the Research Council for Biosciences and Environment received 615 applications (579 in 2014) and the Research Council for Health received 557 applications (535 in 2014).
The funding decisions will be made in April–June 2016. The decision dates will be posted on our website later this year.
