New Postdoctoral Researchers funded in biosciences and environmental research

The Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Biosciences and Environment has decided to grant funding for 16 new research posts as Postdoctoral Researcher. The funding period starts in September 2014.

The Postdoctoral Researcher funding is granted for three years. The aim of the funding is to advance the professional competence of the most promising researchers who have recently earned their doctorate. In the review of applications, attention is paid to the scientific quality of the research plan as well as the applicant’s mobility and independent development.

The Research Council granted Postdoctoral Researcher funding to Fang Cheng (Åbo Akademi University), Peter Gollan (University of Turku), Swanne Gordon (University of Jyväskylä), Suvi Huttunen (Finnish Environment Institute), Helena Jäntti (University of Eastern Finland), Ilkka Kronholm (University of Jyväskylä), Liisa Kulmala (University of Helsinki), Johanna Leppälä (University of Helsinki), Michael Lienemann (Technical Research Centre of Finland VTT), Ilya Nevzorov (University of Helsinki), Veera Norros (Finnish Environment Institute), Veli-Matti Pakanen (University of Oulu), Elina Peltomaa (University of Helsinki), Maija Pietilä (University of Helsinki), Salla Ruskamo (University of Oulu) and Laura Vesala (University of Tampere).

Within the Academy’s September 2013 call, the Research Council received a total of 157 applications for funding for research posts as Postdoctoral Researcher. Women accounted for 56 per cent and foreign researchers for 29 per cent of applicants. The success rate was 10 per cent. The total amount of funding granted by the Research Council for Postdoctoral Researcher funding is some EUR 4.1 million.
