Funding available for research collaboration between Africa, Europe and Finland
2 Jan 2013
The ERAfrica call for funding European and African research collaboration will open in January 2013. The call has three separate themes: Interfacing Challenges, Renewable Energy and New Ideas.
The Academy of Finland and the Finnish Cultural Foundation can fund Finnish researchers involved in Interfacing Challenges projects. The Academy’s funding contribution will amount to EUR 150,000 for three years. Tekes can fund Finnish researchers involved in Renewable Energy projects. Finland will not fund New Ideas projects.
A precondition for the funding is that the collaboration is carried out between researchers from at least two European and two African countries. The partners shall be researchers from the countries contributing to the funding of the call. The projects may also include researchers from other countries with funding received from other sources.
In the call covering the Interfacing Challenges theme, Finnish researchers must have a European partner from at least one of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Turkey. They must also have African partners from at least two of the following countries: Burkina Faso, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and/or Ivory Coast.
The aim is to implement the call in 2013. Researchers shall submit their proposals in the online system of the Common Call management, which is the International Bureau of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research at the German Aerospace Centre (PT-DLR). The PT-DLR will also be in charge of the evaluation of proposals. The search for experts to serve as reviewers of proposals is under way. More information is available on the ERAfrica website at http://erafrica.eu. The aim is to launch the joint projects in June 2014.
