Julkaisu tarjoaa yleiskatsauksen 17 maan huippuyksikköpolitiikkoihin ja vastaaviin valikoiviin tutkimusrahoitusmuotoihin. Julkaisu sopii mm. käsikirjaksi niille, jotka suunnittelevat ja kehittävät huippuyksikköstrategioita. Katsauksessa tuodaan esiin useita tapoja erinomaisen tutkimuksen tukemiseksi. Se on laadittu käytännönläheiseksi, sillä sen yhtenä tavoitteena on antaa ideoita suomalaisen huippuyksikköpolitiikan kehittämiseksi edelleen. Katsauksessa esitettyjen rahoitusmallien lisäksi on toki mahdollista löytää aivan uusiakin tapoja erinomaisen tutkimuksen tukemiseksi.
This publication provides an overview of selective funding policies comparable to the centre of excellence policy in 17 countries and regions around the world. The survey shows that there are many different approaches to supporting excellence in research. The approach adopted in the survey is strictly practical, and this publication is intended as a handbook for those who are looking for suitable centre of excellence strategies. However, the opportunities to find new solutions have by no means been exhausted.
