Conflicts, Planning Practices and Procedural Justice - Current Research and Methodological Development

Research seminar 14.-15.8.2006 at Fiskars, Pohja.

Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (YTK / TKK) is organising a two-days research seminar on planning conflicts and their consequences to planning practices, policy making and procedural justice (programme under this e-mail). The seminar is part of the larger research programme "Environment and Law" funded by the Academy of Finland.

Our foreign quest and main speaker is well-known professor John Forester from the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Cornell University. John Forester is one of the key persons in the world developing and analysing the planning practices and mediation in conflict situations. In addition, professor Kimmo Lapintie from the Department of Architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology will present a concluding lecture for the whole seminar. Lapintie has been writing and lecturing on communicative turn in planning for several years. Both of our quests will be with us during the whole seminar and commenting the papers.

We are asking for research papers to be presented in sessions. You can also register as a participant without an own paper.

 Costs: 150 euros including lunches on both days, dinner on Monday and accommodation from Monday to Tuesday (2 persons in one room).

Location: Research seminar will be held at historical industrial village Fiskars in Länsi-Uusimaa (near Karjaa) at the Conference Center Fiskars Forum.

How to get there by public transportation: You can come to Karjaa from the directions of Helsinki or Turku by train (about 1 hour) and take a taxi from Karjaa to Fiskars (13 km).

Call for Papers: If you are interested in presenting a paper, please send an abstract (50-100 words) by email to Tuomas Ilmavirta (tuomas.ilmavirta(at)tkk.fi) by June 16th, 2006.

Call for seminar: If you are interested in taking part to seminar, but not presenting a paper, please send an e-mail to Tuomas Ilmavirta (tuomas.ilmavirta(at)tkk.fi) by June 16th, 2006.

Limitation for participants is 30, so be quick enough !
