Cutting soot emissions could curb climate change

Cutting back on short-lived climate pollutants such as soot could be an effective way to slow down climate change. Particularly in Asia and Africa, black carbon emissions are generated at a high rate. What’s more, black carbon has not been included in the agendas at international climate negotiations. Even in Finland, attention should be paid to increasing the efficiency of small-scale combustion such as in fireplaces in winter, as sooty snow does not reflect sunlight back into space, but instead absorbs it.
