European Incoherent Scatter Scientfic Association (EISCAT)


The European Incoherent Scatter Scientfic Association (EISCAT) is the world’s leading scientific organisation for the use of radar in the Ionosphere. 

EISCAT’s function is to conduct research on the lower, middle and upper atmosphere and ionosphere using the incoherent scatter radar technique. The receiver stations of the radar system are located in Kiruna (Sweden), Sodankylä (Finland), Tromsø (Norway) and in Longyearbyen on the Spitzbergen.

The current EISCAT member states are Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, Japan and China.
