Science Europe is an association of European research-performing organisations and research-funding organisations with a significant impact on their national research systems within their areas of remit. The association was established in 2011 and is based in Brussels. It promotes the collective interests of its member organisations in their efforts to foster European research and strengthen the European Research Area. For instance, it collaborates with its members to draft policy documents on European scientific and research cooperation. Science Europe does not fund research. The Academy of Finland joined Science Europe in November 2011.
In 2012, Science Europe and the US National Science Foundation (NSF) launched the Global Research Council as a new initiative dedicated to promoting the sharing of data and best practices for high-quality collaboration among funding agencies worldwide.
