The Academy of Finland joined the BiodivERsA network in June 2016. BiodivERsA is funded under the Horizon 2020 ERA-NET COFUND scheme. The network develops programming and funding cooperation on biodiversity and ecosystem services across Europe. A particular objective of the network is to reach out to and engage policy-makers and to increase the societal relevance and impact of the research.
As a network member, the Academy of Finland is well poised to provide more opportunities for Finnish researchers to engage in international networking and to support national forums on biodiversity, such as the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and the Finnish Biodiversity Information Facility (FinBIF). BiodivERsA includes 32 organisations from 19 European countries.
By June 2016, BiodivERsA has co-funded six joint calls with its partners (e.g. a call with FACCE JPI and a call with the EU Commission). The Academy’s Research Council for Biosciences and Environment is prepared to contribute to the preparation of joint calls within the network.
The Research Council for Biosciences and Environment of the Academy of Finland will be involved in funding the next BiodivERsA call. The BiodivERsA and Belmont Forum networks will jointly launch the BiodivScen call for proposals, Scenarios of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. The main objective of the call is to promote scenario-based research on biodiversity, changes within biodiversity and the associated ecosystem services. To be eligible, research projects must combine high-level scientific research with social relevance and the participation of decision-makers, particularly at international level.
