The Centre of Excellence in Political Thought and Conceptual Change at the University of Jyväskylä consisted of three research teams. The Political Thought and Conceptual History team included both historians and political researchers, who aimed to reach across the boundaries of their disciplines. Researchers in the Politics and the Arts team analysed different art genres as political activity. The CoE's third team, The Politics of Philosophy and Gender, approached the themes of gender and sexuality from a political vantage-point.
The CoE took an active part in both the academic and public debate on politics and also hoped that its research would improve political literacy.
The CoE was headed by Professor Kari Palonen.
