The Centre of Excellence in Learning and Motivation Research brought together two lines of research that are interested in learning difficulties, i.e. neuropsychological research and motivation studies. The integration of these two formerly separate fields was expected to create a stronger foundation for exploring how learning difficulties develop in the family and school environment and how they affect children's subsequent school careers.
The results helped in developing new ways of preventing learning difficulties both at home and at school. The CoE consisted of three research groups based at the University of Jyväskylä. Researchers from Joensuu and Turku universities were also involved in the work.
The CoE was headed by Professor Jari-Erik Nurmi.
