The Centre of Excellence in Translational Genome-Scale Biology had set itself the goal of studying the impacts of human genes on cell growth and premature ageing. The CoE used the results of these studies to identify cancer genes and to translate genome-scale discoveries towards diagnostics and therapeutics. In addition, researchers at the CoE worked to develop new technologies for cell-based functional screening.
The CoE was a multidisciplinary unit composed of six research teams working in the fields of bioscience, medicine and engineering. It involved researchers from VTT Finland and the universities of Helsinki and Turku.
The CoE was headed by Academy Professor Olli Kallioniemi.
