China and Taiwan: funding for researcher mobility

Applications for mobility grants for research at universities and research institutes in China and Taiwan are invited in September.

The Academy of Finland has agreements on researcher mobility with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the National Science Council of Taiwan (NSC).

From Finland to China and Taiwan

  • NSFC grants are awarded for research in life, natural and engineering sciences at Chinese universities and research institutes. Applicants should make sure that the Chinese inviting party is a person receiving an NSFC basic research grant. The Chinese inviting party must apply for a hosting grant from the NSFC to cover the applicant’s accommodation costs and grant. The Academy of Finland covers the researchers' round trip from their place of residence in Finland to their destination in China. The NSFC covers accommodation and a grant in China.

  • CAS grants are awarded for research in natural and engineering sciences at CAS institutes. The Chinese inviting party must be associated with a research institute under CAS. The Academy of Finland covers the researchers' round trip from their place of residence in Finland to their destination in China. CAS covers accommodation and a grant in China.

  • CASS grants are awarded for research in the humanities, culture studies, law, economics and social sciences at CASS institutions and Chinese universities. The Chinese inviting party shall be associated with a research institute under CASS. The Academy of Finland covers the researchers' round trip from their place of residence in Finland to their destination in China. CASS covers accommodation (and answers for arranging accommodation) and a grant in China.
  • Taiwan grants are awarded for research at Taiwanese research institutes and universities. Primarily, support is awarded for research in the following disciplines: low temperature physics, functional brain imaging, communication engineering, naval architecture, biochemistry, biomedical science, biopharmaceutical science, epidemiology, intellectual property rights and genome biotechnology ethics. The Academy of Finland covers the researchers' round trip from their place of residence in Finland to their destination in Taiwan as well as a grant: how to calculate the grant.

  • The minimum duration of the stay is one week.
  • The applicant is a researcher with at least a higher academic degree, but we will give preference to researchers with a doctoral degree.
  • The grant is a personal grant.
  • Applicants must take out health insurance for the grant period.
  • Applications are drafted in the online services.
