Funding for researcher mobility and seminars based on bilateral agreements
Applications for the Academy of Finland’s mobility funding are invited each year in September. When the call is open, the call text is available on the page Apply now.
Funding for mobility from Finland
- Target countries: China and Taiwan, Germany, India, Japan and Russia
- The funding is especially designed to support early-career researchers with a doctorate.
- The funding comes in the form of personal grants (excl. DAAD, Germany). To start using it, the researcher must submit a request for payment to the Academy's Registrar's Office.
- The granted funding is regarded as having been received when the researcher starts using it.
- DAAD (Germany) funding is paid via the university.

Funding for inviting researchers to Finland
- Invitee must be from India, Taiwan or Russia.
- The funding is awarded taking into account the invitee’s significance to the research of the inviter or the inviter’s organisation.
- The granted funding is regarded as having been received when the researcher starts using it.
- The funding is paid via the university.

Funding for joint researcher seminars
- This funding applies to Japan and China.

The Academy especially considers the following issues in granting mobility funding:
- How does the applicant justify why and for what purposes the funding is applied for?
- What is the quality, the scope and the necessity of the proposed research collaboration?
- Is it a new research initiative or a new collaboration initiative for the applicant?
- Does the theme match the following themes?
- special themes identified by the Academy Board
- themes of Academy Programmes (Academy-funded research programmes)
- themes of programmes by the Strategic Research Council
- Does the project involve use of necessary research infrastructure?
- Has the applicant been granted any other funding for the same purpose? The funding is intended for new, thoroughly justified collaboration initiatives.
