Climate change a severe threat in the western Amazon

Deforestation is often seen as the main enemy of the Amazon rainforest. A recent study, however, shows evidence of an even more imminent threat: climate change.

Now a new study funded by the Academy of Finland and led by researcher Eduardo Maeda from the University of Helsinki has put together a unique combination of satellite data and hydrological measurements to study the problem. The results are a reason for concern.
