Academy of Finland allocates EUR 20 million to research aimed at boosting economic growth
25 Sep 2013
The Board of the Academy of Finland has decided to allocate EUR 20 million to facilitate cutting-edge research and to launch two thematic research programmes. The appropriations are included in the Government’s third supplementary budget proposal for 2013.
Of the funding, a total of EUR 12 million will be used to support Centres of Excellence and research infrastructures that are of key importance to Finland. In addition, a maximum of EUR 8 million will be used to fund two new research programmes targeting Arctic research and mineral resources.
The funding decisions are contingent on the Finnish Parliament’s decision to allocate the needed appropriations to the Academy of Finland.
The call within the new research programmes will open on 19 November and the deadline for funding applications is 18 December 2013. The call text will be published in mid-October. A researcher workshop will be arranged on 10 October 2013 with a view to defining the aims and thematic areas for the research programme on the Arctic region.
