Strategic Centres for Science, Technology and Innovation

The Academy of Finland contributes to the operation of the Strategic Centres for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTIs) by funding the high-level research within them that is carried out at universities and research institutes. All the Academy’s funding instruments are available to support research at the CSTIs and in their thematic fields. In the CSTIs, top-quality research teams and units work together with companies that apply their research results. The virtual research organisations of the CSTIs carry out the research plans jointly agreed between the companies and the research units. CSTIs are multidisciplinary and involve different sectors of industry, and they are application-driven.

The Academy works together with Tekes. In addition to the Strategic Centres for Science, Technology and Innovation, thirteen national Clusters of Expertise are also being set up in Finland, within the administrative sphere of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
