Research Programme on Business Know-how (LIIKE 2)
Liike2 - Programme background and aims

Apart from significant institutional developments, there have also been rapid changes in the economic and technological environment of business companies in recent years. The accelerating trends of globalisation and the growing emphasis on the customer's role have influenced the approaches and strategies adopted by business companies and other economic organisations at various levels and in various different directions. Business operations and competition in the international marketplace as well as the changes in business models and strategies also present a host of new challenges for research into business know-how.

Current and emerging issues around the local and global economy, employment, business operations, competitiveness and the commercialisation of innovations and technology know-how have all highlighted the need for a new research programme focusing on issues of business know-how. This new research programme will be aimed to answer the question of how business know-how serves as a pillar of Finnish society alongside technological and social innovations.

The Research Programme on Business Know-how (Liike2) aims to explore different dimensions of business know-how that are considered important to the Finnish economy. One of the aims of the programme is to integrate the analysis of business know-how with the current situation in the national economy: In what way do Finnish and Finnish-based companies improve national competitiveness through their own actions?

The general aims of the programme are to strengthen research in business know-how;
to improve the socio-economic applicability of business know-how; to promote national and international research cooperation; and to strengthen researcher training and research careers.

Coordination and cooperation

The programme is being coordinated by the Helsinki School of Economics (HSE). The Academy allocate a maximum of 4.25 million euros to the programme. The funding for the projects is granted for a maximum of four years during 1 Jan 2006 - 31 Dec 2009. Three projects in the programme get additional funding from the Finnish Work Environment Fund.
