Science in society

The Academy of Finland is an expert organisation in science and science policy. It conducts science policy reviews, implements evaluations and assessments, foresights developments in different fields of research, assesses the impacts of research funding, promotes professional careers in research, and increases public awareness of science and research.

Research funded by the Academy has an impact on society. It generates new knowledge, creates new innovations, advances well-being, and benefits economic activity. 

The Academy is keen to emphasise the social significance of research. It works actively to provide information on research careers, graduate schools, science and Academy-funded research, and to encourage researchers to take every opportunity to publicise their own work.

One of the Academy’s key missions is to conduct scientific assessments and evaluations.
