Funding decisions
Academy funding decisions are made by the Academy Board, by sub-committees appointed by the Board and by the Research Councils. Funding is granted as a lump sum for a fixed term and that sum must not be exceeded. Research Councils or sub-committees may set special conditions for funding. Research projects are normally not granted additional funding during an ongoing funding period.
Applicants will receive an automatic email message after the funding decision has been made. After receiving this email, applicants can log in to the Academy’s online services with their username and password, select the application on which the decision has been made and see if the decision is favourable or not. Applicants can also read the expert reviews on their applications if such reviews have been used in decision-making.
The subpages of this section contain information on the timetables and criteria for funding decisions as well as on the funding decisions made.
Before the funding can be paid, the principal investigator and the site of research must (via the online services under My applications) within six weeks from the decision date confirm that they will accept the funding, unless otherwise stated in the special condition of the decision notification. By confirming that they will receive the funding, the principal investigator and the site of research accept the whole funding decision and commit themselves to complying with the conditions set by the Academy for the use of the funding. No such confirmation is required for decisions regarding the FiDiPro and Centre of Excellence programmes.
The conditions for Academy funding decisions are presented under Use of funding.
