History
The first act regarding the Academy was issued in 1939. The present-form Academy started its operation in 1970. All these years involve a number of changes.
A three-volume history has been written (in Finnish) on the Academy of Finland. The first volume of the history, Top Individuals and Committees (1948–1969), written by Adjunct Professor Allan Tiitta, was published in 2004. Volume II, Society and Research (1970–1988), written by Dr Maritta Pohls, came out in 2005. Volume III, Competition and Cooperation, by Adjunct Professor Hannu Heikkilä, discusses the years 1989–2003.
