Brazil

The Academy of Finland and the Brazilian research funding agency National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) signed an agreement on cooperation in May 2008. The organisations aim at mutually benefical research funding cooperation of a high standard. Another aim is to support long-term systematic research collaboration between research teams from Brazil and Finland, and to promote researcher mobility. Joint seminars and workshops can also be arranged.

In December 2008, the Academy and the CNPq opened a joint call for research projects within sustainable energy. The call was linked with the Academy's Sustainable Energy research programme and its themes were sustainable terrestrial biomass systems for energy, energy efficiency in pulp and paper production, and biomass-based production in biorefineries. Funding was awarded to four three-year projects. The Academy's funding contribution was just over EUR 2 million. More information on the projects that were granted funding is available on the website of the Academy's Sustainable Energy research programme.

In 2009, there was a joint call in photonics within the Academy's Research Programme on Photonics and Modern Imagining Techniques, under the following themes: organic photovoltaics, optical sensors and nanostructured (optical) materials. Funding was awarded to four three-year projects. The Academy's funding contribution was just under EUR 1.7 million.

EULARINET INCO-NET

The Academy is involved in the EULARINET INCO-NET within the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), which aims at finding significant research themes of mutual interest to European and South American researcher, so that they can participate in the thematic calls of the Cooperation Specific Programme of FP7.
