Banking

Opening a bank account in Finland is fairly easy and straightforward. Nonetheless, it is a good idea to make an appointment with your local bank. Usually you will be required to present the following documents:

• Passport
• Certificate of employment/Certificate of scholarship
• Certificate of the origin of your funds if from outside Finland
• Statement on why you need a bank account

You will also need a Finnish social security number to set up a bank account, so get that before you make an appointment with your bank. You can go ahead as soon as you have a temporary social security number.

Banks are usually open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:15. When you are setting up your account go to the information desk to make sure you get the right queue number to the right counter. To open a new account you will need to make an initial deposit. For more information on banking in Finland, follow the link below.
