The state of scientific research in Finland 2012
The project reviewing the state of scientific research in Finland 2012 consists of three parts. Part I looks at the impact of the Finnish research system by making use of the results of the VINDI project carried out by the Academy in cooperation with Tekes.
Part II identifies the areas of strengths and prepares development proposals. The review covers a total of 47 scientific disciplines. The disciplines to be reviewed are based on the classification of fields of science of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (which has been further specified by the Academy’s Research Councils).
The discipline-specific task forces play a key role in the implementation of the review. The members are invited by the Academy and are top scientific experts and key actors in their respective fields. The task forces will make use of statistical and bibliometric data as background material for their work. The latest discipline evaluations carried out by the Academy will also be used in the review project.
Part III provides a thematic overview of the state of scientific research in Finland within selected research fields that address the grand challenges faced by society. The aim is to identify major areas of strength and opportunities in Finnish scientific research as they tackle large-scale grand challenges.
