International evaluation of dental research

In 2007, the Academy of Finland conducted an international evaluation of Finnish dental research. The evaluation focused on the institutes of dentistry at the universities of Helsinki, Oulu and Turku as well as on independent dental research teams at the Institute of Biotechnology and the National Public Health Institute.

The evaluation was commissioned by the Academy’s Research Council for Health and the Steering Group was chaired by Professor Kalervo Väänänen. The evaluation was coordinated by Deputy Chief Dentist DDS, PhD Riitta Pahkala from Kuopio University Hospital. The Evaluation Panel was chaired by Professor Ulf Lerner from Umeå University, Sweden.
