Science in society

The Academy of Finland is an expert organisation in science and science policy. It conducts science policy reviews, implements evaluations and assessments, foresights developments in different fields of research, assesses the impacts of research funding, promotes professional careers in research, and increases public awareness of science and research.

One of the Academy’s key missions is to conduct scientific assessments and evaluations. These include peer reviews in the selection of research projects for funding, impact assessments of research programmes, assessments of individual disciplines and overviews of the national research system.

The most extensive ongoing project is the 2012 review of the state and quality of scientific research in Finland. The report is due in December 2012.

Finnish plant science holds a high standard

Plant science research in Finland is of a high quality and some of the research units are at the international forefront in their field. The high standard of research and the expertise of the units provide a sound basis for researcher training and create potential for further success in the future.
