Surface plasmon enhanced light emission from GaN-based LEDs

This project investigates the use of coupling between surface plasmons and semiconductor quantum wells to enhance light emission and extraction from GaN based light emitting diodes. To enhance the light output a periodic array of artificial metal nanoparticles is fabricated near the active layer. This requires extensive clean room processing of the device. Finally the structure is optimized by combining the results from the optical measurements and theoretical calculations.
