Restoration of Boreal Environments, RESTORE 2000

Objectives
The main aim of the Research Programme for Restoration of Boreal Enviroments (RESTORE 2000) was to support scientific research to improve or create an information base for restoring the environment.

Themes
The areas included in the Programme are mainly boreal environments in Finland, areas surrounding it and other corresponding Northern areas. The Programme covered the scientific, technological and social aspects of environmental restoration. The Programme prioritized research that is useful for the setting of goals for the restoration and the control of their fulfilment.

The Programme supported scientifically important and current research projects that included the develoment of methods, evaluation and distribution of research results as well as researcher training, international cooperation in research and cooperation networks.

Funding
The Academy of Finland's Research Council for Environment and Natural Resources allocated some FIM 8.8 million for 11 research projects within the Research Programme.

Coordination
The research project was coordinated by professor Erkki Haukioja, University of Turku.
