Responsible Management and Long-Term Corporate Success: Examining the Process of Firm-Stakeholder Interaction (RESPMAN)

The objective of the research project is to examine and understand how corporate long-term success can be built on responsible management by looking at the process of firm-stakeholder interaction. The consortium seeks to elucidate this issue through two research questions:

·        What are the normative premises and feasible practices for responsible management and firm-stakeholder interaction in the global business environment?

·        What are the outcomes of responsible management and firm-stakeholder interaction in terms of organisational performance and company disclosure?

To achieve the research goal, we start by analysing the concept and content of responsible management with corporate social responsibility and business ethics perspectives. We are especially interested in strategic stakeholder relationships and aim to examine over time what strategic relationships are like between organisations and their stakeholders. We are also interested in the shift in managements' strategic priorities in terms of economic interests and stakeholder orientation, and will examine the change in managers' stakeholder orientation over the last years. We are also interested in how responsible management is carried out in practice and will endeavour to develop tools and frameworks for real-life managers to use in their everyday work.

To comprehend the outcomes of responsible management we shall examine how firms communicate and report on their responsible business practices. This part of the research project attempts to enhance the understanding of social responsibility reporting by focusing on analysing the figures the companies are disclosing as social and environmental accounting information.
