Researchers' seminar 23-24 September 2008

The target group for this year's Researchers' Seminar of the FinNano research programme was younger researchers. Instead of inviting consortium leaders to give overview presentations of achievements of the consortia, we invited the grass-roots people to tell us what, how, and why they study what they study. In addition to hearing about the latest results, this apparently was a fruitful way of creating nano-networks in Finland.

The program consisted of 14 oral presentations and 18 posters, as well as social programme. As an invited expert, professor Kai Savolainen will tell us about topical questions in safety aspects in nanoscience and -technology.

The programme of the seminar can be found here.

After a non-scientific voting procedure, the best poster and best oral presentation were rewarded. Posters:

  • Lotta Bergman et al.:  Controlled stabilization of traceable sol-gel silica (nano)particles via surface engineering
  • Jyri Rintala et al.: Combined and Raman measurements of individual SWCNT's

Oral presentation winner:

  • Pasi Kankaanpää: BioImageXD software and confocal microscopy in nanoparticle development

Congratulations to the winners, and many thanks for all participants!!!

NMP Finland: 2008 program seminar

The Annual seminar of the programme was organised jointly with Tekes in connection with the NMP Finland event. The event was a success, and we had well over 100 participants even in the afternoon scientific session on the second day. Thank you for all contributors and participants! More information can be found here.

FinNano opening seminar 8.11.2006

FinNano opening seminar was held in the Academy's Main Hall, Helsinki, on 8 November 2006. Presentations were given by the chair of the steering group, the coordination, the Ministry of Education, and by our sister programme, FinNano technology programme funded by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. In addition, scientific presentations were given by three of the funded projects. Over 50 participants enjoyed this networking possibility in the meeting hall as well as during the buffet. Seminar language was English.

The presentation slides (pdf):

Professor Kari Rissanen, Academy of Finland
FinNano research programme: how it was built

Counsellor for education Erja Heikkinen, Ministry of Education
Nanoscience and nanotechnology - requiring targeted national efforts

Senior technology advisor Markku Lämsä, Tekes
FinNano technology program by Tekes - exploiting and commercialising nanotechnology

Programme manager Petri Ahonen, Academy of Finland
Facts of the Call known. But what are researchers' expectations for FinNano programme

Professor Päivi Törmä, University of Jyväskylä
